For this year's 54 Film Fest Knoxville winners, M.A.K.A. Productions, the biggest challenge of their weekend-long experience was not finding the right music or turning their movie in on time; it was perseverance.
Add a commentJames and I are not huge fans of the Oscars. Though we someday hope to win one, every year both of us have issues with both the nominations and the winners. Why did Ang Lee win Best Director for "Life of Pi" over Spielberg? Why was Ben Affleck not nominated for Best Director when his movie "Argo" won best film?
But even though we disagree with some of the Academy's choices, we have a lot more respect for them two years into 54 Film Fest Knoxville. Many people have asked us how we judge our film festival, and in this post, we will cover how we determine the winner of the Curveball Challenge, Best Cinematography, and Best Film.

I'm pleased to announced that tickets are now open for 54 Film Fest Knoxville 2013! We have an amazing lineup of 28 short films this year. Out of the 29 teams who competed this year, 26 will screen Sunday March 3 beginning at 4 p.m. In addition, we will have a special evening screening of last year's winner, "The Fudler Institute" by I'd Like To Buy a Vowel Productions and a special screening of work done by our 54 Film Fest staff.
Limited tickets are on sale right now on our registration page. Single screening tickets are $8, while a combo pass is $15 for both showings. Immediately following Act II will be our awards ceremony, which is free this year. And, as another bonus, our sponsor Pelancho's will be hosting our after party following the conclusion of the awards cermony!
Make a night of it! Join us for an evening-long celebration of films in Knoxville at 54 Film Fest March 3 beginning at 4 p.m. at Regal Downtown West 8.
